THQ takes Warhammer 40,000 online

Publisher extends licence agreement, with new provision for MMO gaming.

THQ has announced that it has extended its worldwide licensing agreement with Games Workshop for the Warhammer 40,000 franchise until the year 2013.

As well as the right to produce console, handheld and PC games, the new agreement also includes all online and wireless rights, including MMO gaming.

“Our success in creating Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War as a category leading RTS experience for PC gamers is just the beginning,” THQ’s executive VP of worldwide publishing Kelly Flock stated. “The Warhammer 40,000 universe provides richness of worlds, characters and stories and levels of depth that translate perfectly to interactive experiences.

“We see a lot of opportunity to build new and different games based on Games Workshop’s fantastic property in the coming years.”

The Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War franchise has sold over two million units to date.

MMORPG and FPS are excellent genre opportunities for the Warhammer 40k universe both for PC and console use. I foam at the mouth thinking of what is to come.
