Upcoming Chinese launch should see sales rocket even higher.
Blizzard has confirmed that its World of Warcraft expansion The Burning Crusade has now sold over 3.5 million units worldwide, pushing total subscriber numbers to over 8.5 million.
Region by region, Burning Crusade has sold 1.6 million copies in Europe and 1.9 million in North America and Australasia. With China being the single biggest market for World of Warcraft, the expected release in that territory later this year should propel the expansion to even greater heights.
Burning Crusade sold 2.4 million copies globally in its first 24 hours on sale, easily making it the best selling PC game ever. In fact, the game sold more copies worldwide in its first day on sale than any other PC title has managed in its first month.
It’s only the UK that has so far bucked the trend – with Burning Crusade just falling short of Championship Manager 4’s week one record.
