Lazard: Game sales up by a quarter

US: Lazard Capital Markets predicts significant boost for retail in the states.

In advance of NPD’s monthly sales figures, research firm Lazard has forecast a decent spike in US games sales for the month of February, reports next-gen.

Top performers included Crackdown, Lost Planet, Wii Play and Ghost Rider, while older titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Call of Duty 3, Rainbow Six Vegas, WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 and various EA Sports titles also continued to sell through February.

The firm also stuck its neck out to forecast hardware sales, with 400,000 Wiis, 300,000 PS2s, 275,000 Xbox 360 and 200,000 PS3s likely to have been sold.

Lazard also – rather unsurprisingly – forecasts DS sales to remain strong going forward, while it also states that it expects Sony to “focus more attention on expanding the PSP market in 2007.”

Total market sales are predicted to have beaten the previous year’s $345 million figure for February, coming in at $415 million.
