PS3 price cut in October, says analyst

A Goldman Sachs analyst has predicted that Sony will drop PS3's price this year.

Yuji Fujimori said in an investor note that reductions in the manufacturing costs of the machine would lead to a $100 global price cut in October, reports Next-Gen.biz.

Fujimori’s note adds that the number of components in the final models of both PSOne and PS2 dropped considerably from their initial prototypes.

It also mentions that the original PS3 model consisted of 4,000 components – and that the current production is closer to 2,000 units.

IBM recently unveiled production of a 65 nanometre PS3 Cell chip, which had been reduced from the original, more expensive 90nm model.
