Retail is set for its biggest ever sales blitz this weekend, with around 220,000 PS3s available to be snapped up by gamers eager to get a taste of Sony's next-gen console.

And SCE UK managing director Ray Maguire told MCV that he expects nothing less than the biggest console launch ever.

"Our egos want to make sure that we have the biggest launch in history and do it with the most amount of money ever being taken at retail," he said. "And I’m sure we’ll do that – there’ll be in excess of £100 million going through retailer’s tills over that weekend. That’s a huge amount of money either way you look at it. But that’s just the start. It is really about how we build a sustainable business and platform for everyone – for retailers and for publishers.”
