Whilst we will have to wait until tomorrow to find out how the PS3 has fared during its debut weekend in the UK, early indications show that the new console has bettered the 20,000 figure being cited by some sources.

A representative from Sony Australia told GameSpot that over AUS$25 million worth of PS3 hardware, games and accessories have been sold since last Friday’s launch.

However, if these figures are accurate it would mean that PS3 has failed to break the opening weekend hardware record of 32,421 unit sales set by Wii last December.

It would also lag behind Microsoft’s Xbox 360, which on its release at the end of 2005 sold 30,421 units, making a total of over AUS$30 million.
