Sony’s PS3 processor to power new Namco Bandai arcade games.
The hi-tech chip at the heart of PS3’s 1080p graphical output is to be used as the basis for a new line of arcade cabinets from Japanese gaming firm Namco Bandai. Tekken 6 is expected to be the first title to utilise the technology.
Reuters reports that the deal between Sony and Namco is the first agreement to see the Cell processor implemented commercially outside of the PS3.
Namco has a history of basing its products on Sony technology. Ridge Racer V, Soul Calibur II and Tekken 4 were all designed for the PS2-based System 246 arcade board, hardware that was later licensed out to other publishers.
Tekken 6 is due out later this year.
