Nintendo’s handheld celebrates second birthday in style.
ChartTrack has revealed that Nintendo’s DS and DS Lite handhelds have over sold three million units in the UK.
The news comes as the DS celebrates its second anniversary, after being first released in the UK on March 11th, 2005.
According to ChartTrack figures correct up until March 24th, DS is the UK market leading hardware format so far in 2007 – and accounts for 68 per cent of this year’s handheld console market.
General manager of Nintendo UK David Yarnton said: “It’s a great testament to the strength of the DS hardware and software range available, that just as Nintendo DS has passed its second birthday here in the UK, it reaches such a landmark sales figure.
“With many more Touch! Generations games launching in 2007, Nintendo DS and Wii will continue to be the main driving forces behind the expansion of the video game market this year.”
