Samuli Syvahuoko opens new development studio in Helsinki.
Former Remedy co-founder and MD Samuli Syvahuoko has formed a new studio in Helsinki, Finland that will work exclusively on games styled on disaster movies.
Develop reports that Recoil Games' other founder members bring together experience from the likes of Codemasters, Bugbear, EA, Fathammer, Guerilla Games, Treyarch and Ubisoft.
The company currently has 20 employees, but plans to grow to 50 as work ramps up on its first game, a 360/PS3/PC game based on new IP and built partly on Recoil's proprietary tech and part on third party tools.
“The gaming industry is growing rapidly, and Finland has a strong cluster of expertise in the field. Founding a new development studio with a team of industry veterans is an exciting opportunity that has quickly attracted the attention of international game production companies and investors," said Syvahuoko, who takes the role of director.
"Recoil Games titles will focus not only on compelling storylines and state-of-the-art visuals, but also on superb playability. Our long-term goal is to become a world-class game development company by building original IP game franchises that will reach hit status worldwide."
