NY outrage at GTA IV setting

Senior New York officials speak out against Rockstar’s latest outing.

Whilst the game is set in the fictitious locale of Liberty City, Grand Theft Auto IV’s similarity to New York city has caused upset in the US.

The New York Daily news reports that city councilman Peter Vallone stated: “Setting Grand Theft Auto in the safest city in America would be like setting Halo in Disneyland.”

Once one of the crime capitals of America, New York has seen major changes in recent years.

"The mayor does not support any video game where you earn points for injuring or killing police officers," said Mayor Bloomberg spokesman Jason Post.

Post added that car thefts, or ‘grand theft auto’, have dropped 58 per cent since the current mayor took office, and that so far this year New York City's murder rate has fallen by 28 per cent.
