Manufacturing delayed on 360 HD-DVD

Lite-On has stopped production of drives until it receives Microsoft certification.

Next-Gen reports the Taiwanese manufacturer, which originally planned to begin mass production of the peripheral in this month, is Microsoft’s preferred manufacturer for the drives destined for retail in the Asia-Pacific markets.

However, due to Microsoft’s stringent product certification process taking longer than expected, the manufacturer has been unable to begin production aimed at catering for the demand that has been forecast in the region.

According to sources speaking to Taiwanese-based Digitimes, Microsoft is trying not to delay the product certification process any further, as Sony has granted certification to rival manufacturer Foxconn to produce Blu-Ray drives Playstation 3 consoles as well as standalone players.
