Miyamoto nominated for Time 100 list

Games veteran currently third most popular in online poll.

Nintendo boss Shigeru Miyamoto has been nominated for Time Magazine’s prestigious list of the 100 most influential people in the world.

The 54-year old development guru is currently at number three in the online reader votes, ahead of such luminaries as Bill Gates, Nelson Mandela, Steve Jobs and George W. Bush.

Miyamoto is fighting it out with over 200 other nominees for a place in the coveted top 100.

The magazine lists his ‘pros’ as being, ‘Most successful game designer, creator of Super Mario, Donkey Kong and The Legend of Zelda, whose new platform, the Wii, is currently the top-selling game console.’

His ‘cons’ are listed as: ‘His perfectionist tendencies often result in games being significantly delayed and, despite the Wii's gameplay innovation, its graphics are far behind the competition.’
