First PSOne games hit PS3

Tekken 2, R-Types and Resident Evil are first to work on next-gen console.

After the functionality was reportedly included in the latest PS3 firmware update, 1.70, the first downloadable PSOne titles designed to work on PS3 have appeared on Sony’s PlayStation Store in Japan.

Previously, PSOne games downloaded through the US and Japanese stores were only playable on PSP. European gamers are still awaiting this functionality.

However, from today, several titles have arrived that are compatible with Sony’s next-gen console including Resident Evil, Tekken 2, R-Types and Bishi Bashi Special. The full list can be found on Sony’s Japanese website.

The games are also compatible with any original save data stored on an original PSOne memory card.

Confusingly, Sony has today also released a number of PSOne titles that are PSP-only and not compatible with PS3. These include Fatal Fury, Samurai Showdown and Metal Slug X.
