PlayStation Eye boasts multi-directional microphone and video editing software.
Following the news earlier today that Sony’s first PS3 EyeToy title, Eye of Judgement, will be released this autumn, Sony has gone on to lift the veil on details of its camera peripheral, the PSEye.
The device will boast an integrated microphone, video recording and editing facilities and VGA resolutions. It also seems that it will act as a microphone for online play – explaining why Sony has been slow to release a dedicated PS3 Bluetooth headset.
Other features include a bundled video and picture-editing suite called EyeCreate, and the ability to record direction-sensitive sound thanks to the four-microphone array.
The technical specs in full:
• 4 channel audio input: 16 bits/channel, 48kHz, SNR 90db
• 56º to 75º Field of View zoom lens
• 2.1 F-stop, <1% distortion, fixed focus (25cm to 8 at 75º FOV)
• 640 x 480 at 60 frames/second
• 320 x 240 at 120 frames/second
• USB2 high-speed data transfer
• Uncompressed video or optional JPEG compression
The price and release date are yet to be confirmed, though it is known that the PSEye will come bundled with Eye of Judgement.
