Airborne lands this August

EA’s next-gen Medal of Honor dated in Europe.

One of the market’s pioneering World War II first person shooters, Medal of Honor, is to land on next-gen consoles and PC on August 31st, EA has confirmed.

Medal of Honor: Airborne is set to redefine the series by offering players an increased level of freedom, as well as boasting flashy next-gen visuals.

“Medal of Honor: Airborne is a new direction for the franchise introducing innovations that redefine the series as well as impacting the FPS genre as a whole," explained EA LA’s VP and general manager Neil Young. “We can’t wait for August when everyone can experience the new Medal of Honor, the first WWII game that allows the player to land anywhere and truly fight the way they want to.”

After debuting on PSOne and PC in the late ‘90s, the series rose to prominence following the release of Medal of Honor: Frontline on PS2, Xbox and GameCube in 2002. Its opening level, which depicted the Omaha Beach landing, was one of the most visceral experiences offered by console gaming at the time, baring a striking resemblance to the opening scene in Hollywood blockbuster Saving Private Ryan.

The latest iteration of the series, Medal of Honor: Vanguard, was released on PS2 and Wii last month.
