Atari slashes 20 per cent of workforce

Job cuts to be finalised by July 31st.

A fifth of Atari’s staff are set to lose their jobs as the publisher seeks to save money.

The publisher expects that the restructuring process will cost $800,000 - $1.1 million (£400,000 – £550,000). The firm said that the cuts will be finished by July 31st.

“We expect today's reorganisation will continue to reduce Atari's general and administrative cost,” commented president and CEO of Atari David Pierce.

“These actions, though difficult, are a significant first step in reorganising Atari and demonstrate our commitment to restoring shareholder value.”

The company is yet to confirm exactly how many employees will be made redundant.
