LucasArts unveils Fracture

New third person shooter boasts advanced terrain-altering physics

Fracture, a new third person shooter for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, has been announced by LucasArts and is due for release in summer 2008.

Developed by Day 1 Studios, the game is set in the year 2161 and depicts a conflict between a demolitions expert and a race of genetically enhanced soldiers. The game’s key feature is an advanced terrain-altering engine that allows players to radically change the play area.

“Exciting new intellectual properties serve a vital role to the growth of LucasArts,” president Jim Ward stated. “Fracture represents the next step in this company initiative, complete with the intriguing story and compelling characters audiences expect of a LucasArts release.”

Vice president of product development Peter Hirschmann added: “LucasArts sees simulation-based gameplay as an essential component of a true next-gen experience, and that’s exactly what Fracture delivers.

“Day 1 Studios has done a phenomenal job of creating true next-gen tech that not only dazzles on a visual level but also serves as a core gameplay mechanic. Unlike many other next-gen games on the market, Fracture simply isn’t possible in the previous generation of consoles.”
