Group chief executive Lisa Morgan defiant after Gamestation acquisition
GAME’s buy-out of nearest rival Gamestation, which was confirmed on Wednesday, has got the whole industry talking about whether the super-specialist could face an investigation by the Competition Commission over its dominance of the sector.
But GAME group chief executive Lisa Morgan has told MCV that the retailer is confident that the deal is all above board.
“Blockbuster would not accept an offer that had any potential conditions attached to it,” she said. “The deal will be subject to a regulatory review process and that will be an ongoing process during the first ten weeks. We have taken considerable advice in this area and we are confident and comfortable to proceed.”
Morgan also moved to calm fears that the deal would lead to widespread store closures.
“We are looking forward to putting new GAME and Gamestation stores into the market. This transaction is not about store closures – this is about bringing a second brand into the fold and serving more customers.”
