80GB PS3 set for Korea

New hardware follows PlayStation online user-number boost

Despite denying rumours of an upgraded PlayStation 3 just last month, an announcement on the Sony Korea website has stated that a 80GB version of its next-gen console will debut in the Korean market on June 16th.

The machine will reportedly cost WON518,000, around $556. Though neither SCE or SCEK has made an official announcement as of yet, the machine now looks a certainty. When or if it will arrive in other global territories is yet to be seen.

Meanwhile, Sony has confirmed that the global userbase for its PlayStation Network has now reached 1.5 million in the six months since the PS3’s arrival. Of these users, 775,000 are North American.

In addition, over six million pieces of content have already been downloaded, and in total the network has been logged into 115 million times.
