Sales jump at Square Enix

But Japanese firm confirms no FFXIII this year

Japanese RPG specialist Square Enix has enjoyed a massive sales boost for the year ending March 31st, with the $1.3 billion total representing a 31 per cent leap compared to the year before.

Operating income also jumped considerably, up by 68 per cent compared to last year to reach $214 million. Net income was down 32 per cent, however, at $96 million.

The firm forecasts similar figures for the coming year, although it does anticipate a 19 per cent drop in operating income.

In addition, Square Enix president Yoichi Wada confirmed that the upcoming 13th instalment to its ongoing RPG series Final Fantasy will not arrive before the end of the current financial year, which is next March.

IGN reports that Yoichi told attendees of a Japanese financial meeting that: “Final Fantasy XIII will still take a bit more time. At the very least, a release this fiscal year is definitely out of the question."
