GAME plans aggressive Aussie expansion

25 new stores by Christmas and a new online store spearhead retail push

After GAME’s purchase last year of Australian specialist retailer Gameswizards, the retailer has signalled its intentions to expand its presence in the territory.

Randolph Ramsey, writing for Gamespot Australia, reports that Australian GAME executives have outlined an ‘aggressive rollout’ of stores across the country with the company’s Australian managing director, Robert Lukic stating that the company was aiming to open ‘in excess’ of 25 stores before Christmas.

In addition to opening further stores in New South Wales, ACT and Victoria, where the firm currently has 26 stores, Lukic told Ramsey that the bulk of store openings would be in Western Australia, South Australia and Queensland where they lacked presence.

“We plan to expand rapidly over the next three years,” said Lukic. “We’ll open in excess of another 25 stores prior to Christmas this year. We’ll really become a national retailer to support our current NSW, ACT and Victoria stores. There will be a heavy lean towards the States where we don’t have a lot of openings, particularly in Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria.”

The company also unveiled intentions to launch an online presence in the country. “It’s another opportunity for consumers to get access to a large selection of games, knowing it’s backed up by a competent delivery system and competent stock levels so we can ensure timely deliveries,” he said.
