Project H.A.M.M.E.R. given the axe?

Sources claim Nintendo’s upcoming action Wii title has been cancelled after a prolonged media blackout

IGN is reporting that sources close to internal Nintendo studio NST are claiming that the once much-hyped action Wii title Project H.A.M.M.E.R. has been scapped, with team members moving on to other ‘expanded audience’ projects.

After receiving some harsh criticism following its unveiling at last year’s E3, there has been little heard about Project H.A.M.M.E.R., with the game slipping from a 2007 release date to simply TBC.

Involving the shenanigans of a race of killer robots attacking the US, the game sees players battle the hordes with, as the name would suggest, a giant hammer. The initial build of the game involved little in the way of Wii-remote innovation, though it had subsequently been suggested that the remote would indeed be used to directly control the swing of the weapon.

Nintendo has yet to confirm its intentions for the title.
