North American revenues have grown by “double digit figures” each month since introduction of video on demand
Since the introduction of Microsoft’s Xbox Live movie and TV rental service in the US last November, revenues generated from the online network in the region have grown by “double digit figures” every month, according to Joanne Kaufman of the New York Times.
“We allow a consumer who’s very engaged in games to shift, with the same box, to watching movies,” Microsoft’s senior director of the media entertainment group at Microsoft Ross Honey stated.
“The people we’ve partnered with see this as a good way to re-connect with the consumer.”
No indication has yet been given as to when a similar VOD service will arrive in Europe, though there has been speculation that it could be before the end of the year, possibly alongside the VOD-enhanced Xbox 360 Elite.
