Extends console’s warranty period to three years, will reimburse anyone who has previously paid for repair in $1 billion scheme
Xbox 360 platform holder Microsoft has admitted that the number of its consoles needing repair is “unacceptable”, and has set aside $1 billion for a new customer care scheme that includes extending the machine’s warranty period to three years and reimbursing anyone who has previously paid for their console to be repaired.
Microsoft’s corporate vice president Peter Moore issued an open letter to the Xbox community stating that: “Microsoft has identified several factors that can cause a general hardware failure indicated by three flashing red lights on the console.
"To address this issue, and as part of our ongoing work, we have already made certain improvements to the console.
"As of today, all Xbox 360 consoles are covered by an enhanced warranty program to address specifically the general hardware failures indicated by the three flashing red lights on the console. This applies to new and previously-sold consoles."
"Microsoft stands behind its products and takes responsibility to ensure that every Xbox 360 console owner continues to have a fantastic gaming experience.”

Q) Anyone notice what is conspicuous from the Microsoft statements?
A) An assurance that the Xbox 360 technical problems have all been fixed.
Worldwide or just stateside?
A 3 year warranty would be nice for all of us, with report of extra heatsinks in refubished consoles its about time Microsoft started doing something about it.
But does the 'Xbox community' mean worldwide?.. I assume it does and will be sure to make mention of this should my 3rd xbox360 die on me.
Re: Worldwide or just stateside?
it is world wide, a friend of mine who has had his 360 for over year suffered from the red ring of death. and he phoned up yesterday and asked about the extended warranty, they are taking the old one, he is getting a new one for free?
Re: Re: Worldwide or just stateside?
Ring of Death, what about pad distortion, when your controller goes ski-wif- or unfair multiplayers on xboxlive, who just pawn you in combat, cos your so far from the exchange, that your ammo lags. The auto-aim couldnt shoot a whale with a cannon, Oh and regret of paying out so much for something you probabley wont enjoy. lastly updates that do nothing for you except handy cap your player online, by making percentages of damage differ and accuraceys lower, in realtime player do not sinchronise in realtime, players flash round levels like ghost`s walk through walls(realy) and can shoot around corners. The majority of online players put their videos on You Tube. Check them out. This next generation of console is being nobbled, like sugar before a race. strange multiplayer happenings are rarely explained- Plain Brute Force And ignorance gets you through most games espeically with this number one console- but your enemies will seem end-less, finally think of a descent tag for yourselve`s which can not be mocked-lol
