Kitaue questions price cut, and Metal Gear Solid 4’s proposed PS3 exclusivity
The head of Konami’s North American and European operations Kazumi Kitaue has questioned whether the recent $100 PS3 price cut in North America will help the machine’s sales – and has also gone on to hint that leading franchise Metal Gear Solid 4 could yet defect to Xbox 360.
In an interview with Reuters, Kitaue stated that the PS3’s new $499 price tag is still very expensive: “I wonder if Sony can win back user support by the price cut of just $100.
I don't expect a substantial impact. With $500, you can buy a personal computer."
He went on to state that whilst Metal Gear Solid 4 remains a PS3 exclusive for the time being, the need to ensure a good return on the huge investment ploughed into the title could yet mean it’s forced to go multiplatform.
“Since Metal Gear Solid was born for the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game. But we might have to take some steps,” Kitaue added.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is the one of the main reason i'm getting a ps3. I've been a Sony fan since day one and have no reason to switch. I think the only reason most people don't have a ps3 is because their aren't that many games out for the system. When customers start to see more games out on the system then we well start to buy the system. If you want people to buy the system you can't keep taking away from the system by putting the games people want to play on other systems. The ps3 need to have their own exclusive tittles so people well want to buy the system like "God of War" many people got a ps2 just for that game now when they come out with the 3rd one on the ps3 everybody whose a GOW fan is going to buy a ps3. So keep MGS4 only ps3.
