US publisher raises earnings forecast on the back of strong software performance

The success of Spider-Man 3, which to date has seen four million units shipped to retail across the globe, has helped US publisher Activision ship a total of eight million software units worldwide in the first quarter of its 2008 financial year.

Other success stories were Shrek and upcoming movie licence Transformers, which have shipped two million and one million units respectively. Another title hitting the one million units shipped mark was Guitar Hero II.

Activision is now predicting that its financial results for the period will exceed its former net forecast revenue of $435 million.

"We are pleased with the strong worldwide consumer response to our three movie-based games (Spider-Man 3, Shrek The Third and Transformers: The Game) as well as the launch of Guitar Hero II on the Xbox 360,” Activision chairman and CEO Robert Kotick stated.
