Sony to take 60GB PS3 off US shelves?

Company admits sale of lower-spec model is to halt in US before Xmas

It looks as though Sony Computer Entertainment America is to 'phase out' the 60GB PS3 – and plans to leave the 80GB version as the only SKU available to consumers at Christmas.

A SCEE spokesperson told next-gen.biz in an email that the US will have ‘only one SKU going into the holiday season’.

Sony announced the introduction of the 80GB model to the US at E3 this week – and that it was to reduce to price of the 60GB version by $100, to $399.99.

While American PS3 owners have hardware driven backwards compatibility with the 60gig model, the 80gig one is software driven so it has 70% backwards compatibility rather then 90-95%
Sony are making another foolish decision, this isn't even oneupsmanship with Microsoft, its a insignificant 20gig of space and a game with less compatibility.
If you want more harddrive space you can add your own hard drive, its even in the PS3 manual.
