
Forecasts revised upwards after DS and PS3 boost French firm’s financials
Ubisoft’s sales for the first quarter ended June 30 2007 came to a whopping €134 million, up 90.5 per cent. This year’s figure dwarfs the €70 million recorded for the same period last year.
For the first quarter 2007-08 79 per cent of the Group’s sales came from games for new-generation consoles, compared wth 42 per cent in the comparable prior-year period. PS3 titles accounted for an impressive 21 per cent of sales, while DS took up 16 per cent in the same period.
Ubisoft outlined the continued success of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six on Xbox 360, PS3 and PSP, movie licence Surf’s Up, Prince of Persia, Oblivion, Call of Juarez. Significantly, back catalogue sales accounted for over one third of totlal sales for the period, with the Petz and series and TMNT the highlights.
“Ubisoft has made a solid start to the year, and continued to win market share,” said Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft. “Momentum was particularly strong during the period for European sales, which climbed 109 per cent thanks to the ramp-up of new-generation consoles and the impact of PS3 game sales, including Rainbow Six Vegas and Oblivion.”
“Our performance during this quarter has once again proved the relevance of our early positioning in the casual gaming sector, as demonstrated by the success of our DS and Wii games. Lastly, we were able to present one of the best game line-ups in the industry at this year’s E3, in terms of both quality and diversity,” he added.
