£15,000 spent on consoles for prisoners

UK Government has installed 120 PlayStations in prisons in the last two years

Labour announced last night that it has spent over £15,000 on consoles for young offenders in the past two years, according to a story in national free-sheet Metro.

The newspaper reports that the money had been spent on installing 120 PlayStations in young offender institutions across the country.

“We need to be focussing on getting young offenders back into the world of work, not allowing them to play computer games,” said Tory justice spokesperson Nick Herbert.

My missus works at out local Argos, and prisoners at the local Verne prision (Portland, Dorset) have been ordering PS2's and TFT televisions for as long as I can remember.

No wonder they all re-offend, it's cushy on the inside, everything is free, and life is good.

The mugs of course, are as always, the honest hard working, law abiding folk.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind being locked in a cell for 23 hours a day as long as I had a PS2. The lack of freedom, personal liberty or personal privacy wouldn't get at all repetitive were I to be given a games console! Honestly, this nonsense that people peddle about it being easy in jail - even if I had a 42" plasma, PS3, 360, films on demand and a personal stripper, I'd still go mad after a couple of days being locked up in a small room.

Yeah, if you're constantly used to having enough - a roof over your head paid for (by yourself or someone else), food, a place to sleep, etc. Dealing with the criminal element, I can think of several things they'd rather spend their money on than paying their rent or utilities.

So what's it to them? They'll have all that taken care of for them.

Lame, at least punish them by buying them PS3's then they'll have no games to play.

I love the way the British people always refer to themselves as hardworking folks. All that sweat from sitting in the office, answering phones, and then afterwards binge drinking,.

I'm sure the banks and credit card companies think the same of people. Hence the amount of debt the average person is in. Hard at work spending money you don't own.

Yeah, thanks for the smoking ban chaps. Justice there. Loved the protests.

Oh and thanks for the coming ID cards as well. Nevermind worrying about prisoners. It's the people who seem to be losing their liberty. Deservedly so in my opinion.

really shocked that the taxes we pay cannot go towards, things that are needed and justified, looking after the people not making everyones lives harder for the benifit of the percentage of society that chooses to rebel and make crime a lifetime job. i think there is something totally insane about making these places nice, fair enough human rights might have something to say but so do i..... Dont Do the Crime and you wont do the TIME!
