Publisher applied for hearing yesterday
MCV has learnt that Rockstar has lodged an official plea with the Video Appeals Committee over Manhunt 2’s ban – the UK body that has the power to overturn the British Board of Film Classification’s decision to keep the title off shelves.
The publisher notified the VAC yesterday – taking almost the full six weeks allowed to formulate its appeal since the game was rejected by the BBFC on June 19th.
A date will now be set for the VAC’s hearing, which will take into account both the BBFC’s and Rockstar’s position and view demonstrations of the game.
The chairman of the VAC John Woods now has the task of deciding who will hear Rockstar’s appeal – and decide Manhunt 2’s ultimate fate.
The title was rejected by the BBFC for its ‘unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone’.

Good luck. Let's hope that the BBFC see sense and allow the release of this game. Hopefully Rockstar willl use their time in front of the panel to demonstrate the bias that is shown to movies such as Hostel 2 and Saw III. I feel that these are far more damaging to younger minds than a videogame...

Crazy stuff.
This site has a pretty funny take on it. There's a fictional guest columnist halfway down...

Glad to see someone can see the danger in Rockstar's willingness to promote the murder of innocents as gameplay

Label the game as mature (R) and allow the consumer to decide if it is too violent. If you don't like the violence, don't buy it! Period! What about all the unrated DVDs you can buy..and those are any better! You have a small select group of people who decide the fate of video games. Why don't people see the flaw in that. Not like the game stores actually take note of the ratings anyways! If games were too violent and people didn't buy them, they wouldn't be made. Also, all this ratings business is doing is given free advertising to the developer and publisher and making the game more appealing to gamers of all ages.

What's the point of a ratings system if a committee can ban every potentially mature game created in the future? Rockstar has to bring out the big guns. They have a tendency to focus on adult entertainment, and as such, this appeal will not only affect Manhunt II, but every game they plan on making for the rest of forever. This victory will mean freedom of artistic expression for all developers, while simultaneously radiating freedom of choice for all consumers. As mentioned above, there is a clear bias on the censorship in our gaming industry when compared to other forms of entertainment. (i.e. Movie Industry) It does not follow logic to ban Manhunt II while allowing the "torture porn" movie genre to thrive. (Saw III, Hostel II) Give 'em hell Rockstar!!!

OMG i hope they win this!!!! Manhunt 2 was the only game i was looking forward to this year apart from FF12 but i got that!!
The original is one of my most favourite games of all time and i dont see why this "Game" should be banned when worse things are released like the Saw trilogy etc which made people Faint in the cinema, and i can never imagine a game doing that because they dont involve real people!! Also imagine the amount of profit this'll get released in the UK, thats another thing i think they are thinking of.
ROCKSTAR!!!!! COOOOME OOOOOON!!!! If you pull this off ill love you even more!!! :)

you, my friend, can shut up. Its a game. promote what the hell they want as long as its fun. and by god i loved the first manhunt. get a life loser. theres no danger in what rockstar do. the danger is in miseducation and bad upbringing. A sane adult can play a game and not be any more likely to kill than they were before it. you are a complete retard if you think otherwise.

I find the backla****ainst the BBFC interesting. If you look at censorship laws in the UK we have one of the most tolerant board of sensors in the world. In fact I have seen some of the films that have been cut in the past few years, pre and post censorship and agree with most of their decisions. They normally only cut scenes of gratuitous sexual violence. As we all become desensitised to violence to a greater and greater extend where will it end. What was extreme yesterday, becomes mainstream today. We need to draw a line somewhere.

gta3, vice city, san andreas, manhunt, cannis canem edit all ground breakers all on the darkside of the force a bit but also great sellers going to show the market is more than able to accept these crime and violence ridden games as exactly what they are intended for entertainment as i see it i am an adult perfectly capable of no****ching something i dont send letters to the bbfc about how bad things like pride and prejudice is i just don****ch it i know it offends me and as people may think it is strange that this offends me because it is harmless entertainment i say as those few cannot understand my offence at seeing period dramas reality tv decorating and antique shows cookery programmes and all the other tripe our tellys get filled with these people dont realise that without sick games like manhunt 2 where would adults purge the strong violent impulses brought on by the very entertainment these complainers enjoy so much playing a game can really relieve tension and stress especially very graphic ones maybe all the killjoys out there should try a prostitute killing spree on the streets of los santos or have a good old stalk on gangland scum in manhunt before they decide what we should and shouldnt say let me know your views benjisbubbleatyahoodotcom especially if your a killjoy cos i want a word with you lot anyway
