GAMEFEST: MMO developers permitted to require Xbox hard drive for future titles
Owners of Microsoft’s basic Core Xbox 360 may soon find themselves unable to play the latest titles following Microsoft’s announcement that developers of online MMO games will be allowed to design their titles for use on hard drive-enabled machines only.
Devs will be able to create a single ‘Master Storage File’ on user’s hard drives, though titles will have to clearly state the requirement, and the amount of hard disc space that will be needed, on the front of the box.
Microsoft has also stated that it will not place any restrictions on the amount of disc space needed, though Microsoft designer Ian Lewis has stated: “Feel free to require 30GB for your game – that's just going to make your potential audience a lot smaller.”

Non Story
FF online already required the hard drive as did the US ps2 version and no ps2's came with a hdd as standard.
Re: Non Story
Maybe, Mr Jolly, but this is definitly important news for 360 devs. Disc streaming issues certainly wont be a thing of the past, but it will allow for certain limitations to be overcome. Also no one played FF Online. At least no one in America. USA!
