EA responds to PS3 Madden criticism

‘Vastly different’ knowledge of rival formats lead to coding troubles, publisher claims

Following some heavy criticism of the PS3 incarnation of EA’s Madden 08 in US newspaper The USA Today, a developer working for the publisher has sought to justify the difference between the various next-gen versions, CVG reports.

“It was our intention to put out the best possible with Madden across ten platforms,” an EA technical team member said in a statement.

“In the case of the next-generation consoles, many publishers have been developing titles for the Xbox 360 for over three and a half years while everyone who publishes now for the PS3, with the exception of Sony, has been developing for the PS3 for only a little over one full year.”

“With newer technology, it is very difficult to get it right the first time.”

It's pathetic that one of the worlds biggest games developers can come out with this rubbish, there are many smaller publishers having no problems at all with the PS3, EA need to get their act together.

Excuses. Excuses. A great programming team doesn't use excuses, they create great games. This is the second EA title with Madden on the PS3. The excuse doesn't hold water unless inferior resources were given to the PS3 team. It all comes down to budget. EA probably figured, the PS3 users are small this year compared to XBox, so give the best developers and budget to XBox. There is always next year for PS3 as their numbers grow. It's simple finance.

Bull crap EA. You are well known to put half a$$ games. Hmmm the Battlefield series. To think that I was going to buy the PS3 version of Madden. 30fps? What are you guys doing over there? Stop buying all the decent smaller companies who have not one problem developing games. Enough with the freaking monopolies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really dont care about posting but I felt I needed to vent. Its no excuse why EA is shiting on the ps3. It was Sony who really put them on the map with madden when the ps2 dropped. Everyone remembers Madden 2001 with Eddie on the cover. The game was TIGHT AS HELL!

EA had 2 years to get this shit right but they come with excuses on why its not. What does that say about a company? What if your employees had sorry as excuses all the time. You'll fired that ass! Keep on with this bullish and the consumers are going to Donald Trump your asses!

I'm not hating on the 360, its a good system and you got it right with them, Bravo (I got the "ring of death" but that is besides the point) but the ps3 is a good system aswell. It's time to lay those sorry ass excuses to bed. EA, dont forget where you came from and dont burn your bridges. Once your exclusive with the NFL is up and other companys start to make games again; what then? Don't think your ass cant kicked out the thrown. You made that B@#%h ass move to get the exclusive from 2Ksports because you was feeling the heat.
And one more thing. Why in the hell did you all hire Peter Moore, after that "billon dollar plus" fuck up job he did at Microsoft?

With EA coming out with rubbish excuses like this, who in their right mind is ever going to buy the game now? By basically telling everyone before it has been released that it's rubbish, no one is going to waste their £40 on this! I bet the shareholders at EA won't be too impressed afterwards and their so called "expert" Peter Moore will end up using this as an excuse to have an unfair bash at Sony.

I'm no huge fan of EA. They're not really the coolest of the big evil giants of gaming. However, they didn't say much about the PS3 being inferior. It doesn't really seem much like they're 'bashing' Sony. They simply said that they don't have as much experience working with the PS3 as they do with the 360 (something that is obviously tru, even if it is just an excuse). If EA hadn't 'made this excuse' you'd all just be ripping them a new one for releasing a sub-par game and not saying anything about it.
