Publisher Data Design Interactive has opened a new development studio for its Popcorn Arcade label

In a bid to 'become the biggest developer for the Wii', they have also hired five new staff: Gerard Mulcahy, Lee Parke and Samuel Hanke join the company as junior programmers while David Wolsey and Marc Geahchan enter the art department. The new studio will be headed up by Robert Dorney, who has been with the company for nine years.

“With the incredible success of the Nintendo Wii’s casual gaming market, we want our Popcorn Arcade brand to be the must-have purchase for the casual gamer,” said Stewart Green, MD of Data Design Interactive.

“We have 14 titles that we want to ship this year, four of which already have gold master status and another 3 have been submitted to Nintendo for final approval. To keep up with this staggering momentum, we have set up a new development studio, where a brand new team can immediately start working on existing titles and start developing our planned 30 future titles over the next 12 months.”

Umm, are we to see another low price range of games for another format, which the supermarkets love ? Looking at some of their game they look almost identical game engines with different characters ?

Ninjabread Man, Anubis II, and Trixie Toyland all look to have identical game engines, with just different characters/scenarios. Quick and easy way to make a game, and FLOOD the market with more Rubbish ?

Let's be honest Data Design have always churned out crap games. It's no surprise that their reputation in the gaming industry is abysmal. You only have to sample any of their product to see why. Imagine how hard my job is of trying to spin positive PR on them!
