GC LEIPZIG: Sony confirms 1.3 million PS3 sales in Europe

Next-gen system enjoying faster sales than PS2, says Reeves

SCEE president David Reeves has told a packed Leipzig Game Convention that the PS3 has already notched up an impressive 1.3 million sales in Europe.

Giving a full sales update to the anticipatory crowd, the Sony boss was in the mood for celebration – also revealing that the PS3 had enjoyed a “faster sales curve” than the PS2 had in the same point in its lifecycle.

“Our key objective is to not only grow our share of the market, but to grow the wider market itself,” he said.

Reeves also announced that PS3 sales were up by 61 per cent in Europe since Sony launched the new ‘value’ start pack last month.

I thought it was 13 million - 1.3 is not very much at all. They need games and not just ports and they need to defocus on bluray it is of little interest and isnt important to gamers. They need to get the price down a lot. Say US$390 if they do the exchange rate correctly for the PAL territories and stop ripping us off. Finally, they have to cut out all the marketing BS and hypoe people are not stupid as Sony thinks
