Warner and EA touted as possible suitors as preliminary discussions kick off
SCi has issued a statement to the City to confirm it has been approached to discuss a possible offer for the business.
The statement reads:
“Following the recent speculation in the press, the Board of SCi Entertainment Group plc confirms that it has received an approach and as a result has entered into extremely preliminary discussions regarding a possible offer for the Company. No proposal has been received at this time, however, and there can be no certainty that any offer for the Company will be made or as to the terms of any such offer were one to be made.”
“A further announcement will be made in due course,” it adds.
Thisismoney.co.uk has already suggested that either EA or Warner, which recently announced its intentions to move into games publishing and also bought a 10 per cent stake in Eidos, are the likely suitors.

We cannot compete
Another one bites the dust.
Inevitable
Publisher consolidation is inevitable till we are down to between 2 and 4 global mainstream publishers. It is simple economics. I even wrote an article about it in my brilliant game industry blog, Bruceongames. Look at other IP publishing such as film and music to see our future. The current proliferation of game publishers is an historic anachronism.
If you are a publisher and you are not looking to merge/amalgamate/take over then you are dead.
There is only one vaguely viable future alternative and that is online publishing a la Steam.

Re: Inevitable
SCi clearly need a kick up the butt anyway, i mean they knock out lame tomb raider game one after the other that do nothing to generate any real excitement and sit on great licenses for games that are begging for a next generation revival.
Next Gen Carmageddon anyone?
