Game-stopping glitch sees Nintendo implementing replacement procedure

After having to wait six months following its release on US shores for the arrival of Wii platformer Super Paper Mario in Europe, Nintendo has admitted that the PAL version of the game contains a system-crashing bug.

CVG reports that the bug, which occurs at the start of Chapter 2-2, forces users to re-boot their Wii’s and restart the game from their last save point.

Fortunately, Nintendo claims that the bug is avoidable:

“At the start of Chapter 2-2, you will come across a character called Mimi. She will tell you to go to the farthest room on the first floor to meet a character called Merlee. Enter that room and press the green switch. A trap will be triggered, and a spiked ceiling will descend upon Mario. Before the ceiling reaches him, flip into 3D and jump on it to find a key.

“If you pick up the key, you won't run into any problems. Use it to open the locked door to Mimi's right. However, if you talk to Mimi without picking up the key, the game will freeze. You will then have to turn off your Wii console and start again from your last save point.”

The firm has assured that the problem is not capable of damaging either the disc or the Wii console – and has vowed to replace the disc of anyone who feels aggrieved.

Ninty have always left us waiting, often not even releasing game over here it just emphasizes Nintendo's lack of care and commitment to their European customers. To the Yanks Paper Mario is all but a distant memory after completing Metroid 3 and now they will be rubbing their hands with the imminent release of Zelda DS and Galaxies all of which we probably won't see till Christmas. No wonder Fils-Amie is always looking so smug.

Rant over!
