Nintendo gives Wii Remote a jacket

Safety cover to be included with console and separate remotes

Though the internet hype surrounding the possible safety concerns of the Wii remote have long faded, Nintendo has announced that all future versions of the peripheral will come bundled with a protective safety jacket.

The silicon cover will shortly be included with all Wii consoles and all Wii Remotes that are sold separately.

A Nintendo statement read: “The Wii Remote Jacket provides cushioning for the Wii Remote for people who might accidentally throw or drop their Wii Remotes while playing games.”

It did add though: “The current Wii Remote is a safe product when used properly.”

Those who already own jacket-less Wii Remotes are able to get them free of charge by visiting www.wii.com

By doing this haven't they just killed the market for 3rd party silicon 'jackets'? Bet their peripheral licensees are going to be happy.
