Xbox 360 enjoys sales spike in Halo release week

Weekly hardware purchases double; console outsells Wii for first time in 26 weeks

The release of Halo 3 has had a dramatic impact on sales of Xbox 360 hardware, doubling the previous week’s sales to the highest level of 2007.

According to ChartTrack, the system even managed to outsell Nintendo’s Wii for the first time in 26 weeks – a full half year.

Some 68 per cent of Xbox 360 software sales in the week were of Halo 3.

The release pushed overall software sales of Microsoft’s format to its highest sales week ever – comfortably beating the previous best of week 51, 2006.

Not surprised, Wii is out of stock at most retailers, If XB360 cannot outsell Wii when it's almost sold out then MS might as well go 3rd party

Everyone keeps saying the wii is sold out.. IT ISNT.. There are piles of them at target, Walmart and Nebraska Furniture Mart. Nobody is buying them up fast anymore. Wii sales are falling. The fact is the 360 is just outselling the other consoles.

There are plenty of Wii's and even PS3's in the UK very easy to come by.

Also my local Gamestation has pre-owned PS3's and I think Wii's as well...When the PS3 came out there were a few 360's in the window that were traded in but guess what...There are only PS3's in the window now...

To many Halo3 is the killer app for the 360, if Final Fantasy were to come out PS3 sales would increase as well. It doesn't take to much logic to realize that the largest entertainment release in history(170 million the first day) is going to impact the sales of the console itself. I know some people that were just waiting for Halo3 to get the console.

I work at Gamestop, and none of the Gamestops in pretty much all of the NJ/NY area cannot keep the Wii in stock for more than one day. The reason why there are piles of it at your Target is because you live in OMAHA. Go ahead to the gamestop website and type in various zip codes and see if you can find the Wii in stock.
