Polyphony Digital producer says handheld iteration of racing franchise still on the cards

In an interview with GamePro, the lead producer of the Gran Turismo series Kazunori Yamauchi has said that the long-awaited PSP incarnation of the racing franchise is still on the cards, but that it is taking a back seat to the upcoming PS3 instalment.

Gran Turismo 5 is expected to arrive next year on PS3, and will at long last feature online play. Its release will be preceded by Gran Turismo 5 prologue – a model that was first formed in the build up to the release of Gran Turismo 4 on PS2.

However, when asked if the team was still interested in the PSP version Yamauchi stated: “Probably after Gran Turismo 5. We are working on it, and will get around to it eventually.”
