PS3 price slashed again in Japan

New 40GB joins SKU offering in the East, and for less than current 20GB model

Sony has announced further price cuts across its entire PS3 hardware range in Japan, and also confirmed that the 40GB model that is soon to debut in Europe will also be making an appearance in the territory.

The 60GB model will see its price drop from YEN 60,000 to YEN 54,980 (£230), the 20GB unit will fall from YEN 49,980 to YEN 44,980 (£189) and the new 40GB console, which like the European version lacks the memory card reader, two USB ports and backwards compatibility, will sell for YEN 39,980 (£168).

It is also anticipated that, as in Europe, once the current 60GB supplies run out the model will not be continued.
