Capcom explains Monster Hunter switch

High development costs on PS3 blamed for series’ defection to Nintendo console

As reported by MCV earlier today, one of a number of announcements at Nintendo’s recent press conference was that Monster Hunter 3 will be a Wii-only title – and now Capcom has explained the reasons for its change of heart.

Having previously been a PlayStation-only series, Monster Hunter 3 had previously been announced for development on PS3. The PS2 and PSP versions of the series had to date sold over 4.5 million copies.

However, Gamesindustry reports that Capcom’s managing corporate officer Katsuhiko Ichii told Thompson Financial that: “Due to high development cost of titles for PS3, we have decided to switch the platform to which we release our Monster Hunter 3 title.”

Capcom lies...

I remember Capcom clearly saying they will no longer be making exclusive games and will be going multiplatform...

If the PS3 version is costing too much why jump right down to a Wii version? Surely that isn't going to cost them anything considering the visuals and hardware are PS2 quality anyways.

They at least could have made it for the Xbox 360...

Is it now a Wii exclusive or has it just gone multiplatform? I suspect this is simply a bad translation and its gone multiplatform.

Just 6 days ago Capcom said they were switching their development focus from the PS2 to the PS3.

If this has now been cancelled on the PS3 their previous statement makes no sense at all.

I guess what they meant to say was that they were switching from PS2 to Wii.

I think by now everybody should know this....Capcom is cheap . yes I know this fact hurts but still it's a fact.
Capcom made many games that could have been number 1 or 2 or3 but they don't want to spend too much.Monster Hunter could have got at least 8.5 in gamespot but it got 5.7 for the extra useless movements.By the way did anyone get the English version of Monster Hunter 2.....no????....because Capcom doesn't feel like it.
We all love capcom and their great games but we never liked the lacks in them. All we ask for is just a few seconds of their time so they know what we could say about their games

Wow alot of whining. Its no reason to bash the company or another system, these last generations really are whiners. I am pretty sure this is not the entire story things will probably change again with a statement of multi.
And there is nothing wrong with the Wii.
But then again I guess if they did cancel the game completly for the PS3 that does suck for those that bought the over-priced system.
Well I guess some of you can sympathize with all the Gamecube owners of yesterdays.

It all boils down to two key facts. 1) The PS3 has a woefully low installed userbase - no exclusives on the way and is priced out of the casual market. 2) Wii is market leader, sells bucketloads in all territiories and shipments are set for 22 million units for the end of this fiscal year alone. Capcom may be the first to change their dev focus.....but they won't be the last.

I loved monster hunter when in came out origionally for the ps2. Next they make a bunch of lame mh games for the psp? ***on. Then they make mh 2 for only japanese people. That's plain lazyness. I bought a ps3 partly for mh 3, and they cancel it... wtf man capcom hasn't made any good games anyways for the ps3 or ps2, so this is typical of them. No one likes the wii either. I think that eventually capcom will make a smart move, and move monster hunter 3 to the ps3 aswell, and release it in canada and the us.

wii does not rock in fact you think that you are saving money by buying a wii but in reality you spend just as much money as buying a ps3 with all of the add on that you have to buy ... and lets be honest is wii really a next gen ... i mean its like playing a ps2 with wireless controllers ... and also if you havent noticed wii internet support and online play suck ... just try playing super smash bros without a lag almost impossible no matter who your internet provider may be ... i dont care if mh3 comes out on wii as long as sony fans get it too ...
