Early October takings down 27 per cent, and the finger is pointed at the Master Chief
CVG reports that film executives have blamed the late September release of Halo 3 for the massive 27 per cent drop in takings at the Box Office for the weekend of October 5th.
Whilst Microsoft is relishing Halo 3’s $300 million plus sales to date, movies such as Ben Stiller’s The Heartbreak Kid performed substantially worse than expected.
“The audience on this game is the 18-to-34 demographic, similar to what you'd see in cinemas,” Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey stated. “This could last for several weeks.”

Stop making rubbish movies
There are soo many rubbish movies out only good one is Res Evil imo.
If they released HALO the movie I am sure all game sales would slump and critics would then blame HALO the movie lol.
You can't win.
HALO 3 is a huge hit title why go to the movies when you can be playing HALO 3? and not to mention PGR4?
Get real
Come on get real I mean Halo 3 or Ben Stiller’s The Heartbreak Kid wheres the competition make good films eg Star Wars or LOTR quality and then maybe I will see their point
Re: Get real
It truly amazes me just how out of touch Hollywood is with the rest of the world. Everyone keeps telling them to make quality movies that are not anti-American and yet they continue to ignore. At some point, this environment will implode and a shake up is coming with this worthless group.
Re: Get real
Because everyone aged 18-34 has a 360 and they all bought Halo and stayed in for two weeks. What rubbish.
Re: Get real
"“This could last for several weeks.”
What? People playing Halo or a spate of **** movies?
Re: Get real
Cue loads of articles in the mainstream press proclaiming that games are now 'bigger than the movies'. Also rubbish.
Re: Get real
Some people look at the value of going to the cinema or
buying a dvd versus buying a game. and a game can great replay value with multiplayer, thus making it a cheaper entertainment solution in the long run (8 hours for single player, + however many more for multiplayer at £40, beats £20 for a dvd at 1.5 hours).
Re: Get real
Actually, Bob the games industry is far bigger than the film industry, and it has been for a long time.
