Street Fighter IV announced

Capcom confirms latest outing in legendary fighting franchise at London event

One of the most successful franchises in games is set to return with the news that Capcom is working on a brand new instalment to its globally successful fighting series, Street Fighter.

Few details are known about Street Fighter IV, though its watercolour-themed trailer hints at a more artistically creative outing for the series. It also confirms the ongoing presence of cult fighting duo Ryu and Ken.

There is so far no news on what platforms the game is heading for, or indeed whether it will adopt the tried and tested 2D approach or instead opt to tackle the 3D arena.

The side-scrolling original Street Fighter debuted in Japanese arcades in 1987, and was followed by the release of Street Fighter II in 1991. SFII was the first game to offer one-on-one combat with a range of characters.

Several revision to Street Fighter II were released over the following years, as well as major revisions such as Street Fighter Alpha (Street Fighter Zero in Japan) and Street Fighter III. There was even a 3D version of the game, Street Fighter EX, though it never matched the success of the traditional 2D versions.

Right, I reckon this will be amazing if they dont go 3D. The only way they could get away with a 3D version is if they made it handle and play EXACTLY like the 2D version No, 360 side stepping, no slow business, no funny camera angles, just straight SF but using a 3D engine.

Other than that, a 2D version with all the fighters from all the games, (Zero, 3strike etc) with redrawn sprites in HD would be spot on. We all saw the crime that was Morrigan in Fighting Jam.
No more of that please Capcom.

Here comes a new challenger!!!! Hado-hado-hado-hadooooken!

This game would sma**** if it ran on a 3D engine playing exactly like it's 2D predecessors only utilising camera movement in sections such as the 'super move' paused section where the characters build-up their 'stuff' (alpha series), perhaps in a bullet-time manor which one could switch on and off in the preferences. Replays with a moveable camera could also be nice (just imagine a replay editor... multiple cameras you could switch between and save to card!); just to taunt your mate lol (Mess with his mind! lol yoga-yoga) Post it on YouTube!
