Wii version of Nintendo’s cute-fest reported to be a fully-blown massively multiplayer online experience
The latest issue of Future’s Edge magazine has the scoop on the confirmation that the upcoming Wii iteration of popular franchise Animal Crossing is to be a fully-blown massively multiplayer online experience, CVG reports.
The mag reads: "A Japanese source has confirmed to Edge that the upcoming Wii iteration of Animal Crossing is set to be a social networking MMO."
Animal Crossing has always been a socially-driven game. The GameCube iteration relied on the use of codes for players to exchange information and gifts, whilst the DS sequel went one stage further by allowing wi-fi users a more direct form of contact.
Though no official confirmation has yet been made, the MMO game structure is a logical progression for the series and one that could see it achieve even greater heights than its predecessors.

Home vs Animal Crossing
This is pretty cool and logical also for Nintendo to take animal crossing to the next level. I enjoyed the GameCube version although it was a bizzare game and look forward to another edition on the Wii. However it also reminds me of HOME, Sony's PS3 Social Network offering. Both will be enjoyable to play, although i feel Home will take things to 'another level'
Re: Home vs Animal Crossing
I can't wait for HOME to come out so I can stand around and watch my 3d avatar dance in a 3d chat room on my £400 console.
I'm also looking forward to the third installment in the highly original, engaging and entertaining Animal Crossing games which is now being expanded into an MMO.
HOME also reminds me of that newly introduced and welcome aspect of Animal Crossing.
Re: Home vs Animal Crossing
I wish nintendo would stop copying Sony's ideas, first with motion sensitive controllers and now this animal crossing game basically being a complete rip off of home.
Only this being nintendo, they'll try to make it novel, rather than focusing on how amazing it looks
Re: Home vs Animal Crossing
Excuse me 'Reythor', you can do more than dance in HOME, you can take things to another level.
Re: Home vs Animal Crossing
Both will be great, i think that is the point.... fanboys eh?
Re: Home vs Animal Crossing
Garry get your facts right wii was using motion sensitive controllers way before your PS3 and animal crossing has already had sequels but HOME is totally new you are comparing to uplishers because they are bringing out an MMO You cant say they are a copy cat because they made a game of the same genre
