‘Achievement whores’ face Xbox Live ban

Microsoft warns that those who choose to share online accounts face loss of Xbox identity and access to Live

Whilst the practise of working with your peers to gain Achievement points is fairly common – indeed, games such as Project Gotham Racing 4 actively encourage it – but Microsoft has warned that those who go as far as sharing their account information to do so face possible dire consequences, Next-Gen reports.

Some gamers share account information so they can log into each other’s accounts and perform certain in-game tasks to unlock points. However, account sharing violates the Xbox Live Terms of Use, primarily because it allows people to access other people’s credit card details.

“Don't share your account information,” Microsoft’s chief blogger Major Nelson writes. " While it may be appealing, in addition to violating the Xbox Live Terms of Use it can also result in you permanently losing your account.

“As in you can never get it back. In addition to losing your Gamertag, you'll also lose your Gamerscore, saved games and any points you have on the account.”

“Let me be more clear: If you use tampered gamesaves to boost your Achievements and Gamerscore, you may sign in to Xbox Live one day and discover that we have removed your Gamerscore. Once we do that, you will never be able to re-earn those achievements on that account. Even worse, you might have your account and/or console banned from Xbox Live.”

Oh, sorry, I forgot. It's Microsoft. They obviously have NEVER done that in any of the other markets they attempt to dominate.

Good move from M$, it's taken me 2 years to get about 10000 points, some get that in a month by cheating.

serves 'em right...there's NO need to cheat....they should be banned! good move Microsoft! it too has taken me nearly 2 years to get 11000 points...playing **** games more than i woulda done usually...i think i deserve it lol

Achievemetns are fun, but they are meaningless. Sure I do feel a sense of pride when i get one, but i wouldn't want someone else to do it for me as there would be no fun in it. Its similar to WOW cheaters who pay to get their character to lvl 70, its sad and removes the fun in gaming.

Erm... since when did they become the game police... ok, it bothers me that people share accounts... but seriously, how will they distinguish between somebody who plays on multiple xbox's, or an account being shared around friends. This is going to end in tears for alot of people, just like when some people who got replacement refurbs from m$ for dead xbox's, only to have them banned from live for "modding" a month or two later.
