Nintendo marketing to bring ‘Mario back to the masses’

Aa anticipation continues to build ahead of the release of Super Mario Galaxy, Nintendo has backed its star title with a marketing campaign to match the insanely high expectations surrounding the title.

With rave reviews flooding in from all corners of the media, Nintendo has detailed its ambitious marketing plans in this week’s Recommended Extra – and hopes this will help the title storm the charts this Christmas. It is certainly the biggest marketing campaign for a Mario title that I’ve ever been involved with,” said Rob Lowe, senior Wii product manager.

And having played it at some length now – it is an absolutely awesome title, it had me giggling like a child again – which is an amazing achievement for a video game.”

Super Mario Galaxy is being backed by a sturdy TV campaign, which began on November 5th with a series of teasers. The bulk of the TV activity will then kick off on November 19th.

Nintendo has also secured high profile support in the national press, while a full compliment of point of sale will be made available, including stackable cubes, dummy sleeves, counter top displays, shelf wobblers, standees, oversized boxes, mobiles, posters and FSDUs.

We truly believe that Super Mario Galaxy is a game that can appeal to anyone who’s ever heard of video games,” continued Lowe.

We really want to bring Mario back to the masses – and truly cement his status as the number one gaming icon of all time.”
