Further evidence to suggest third party publishers are finding it hard to tap into Nintendo market
It has been revealed that despite the global dominance of Nintendo’s Wii and DS gaming duo, both the Xbox 360 and the PS2 were more profitable for global publishing giant EA for the quarter ending September 30th – reinforcing concerns that third party publishers are finding it hard to tap into Nintendo’s success.
Gamasutra reports that Xbox 360 proved the most profitable format for the publisher in the period, with revenues of $218 million. Sony’s everlasting PS2 was next in line, with revenues of $73 million. Wii and DS followed with revenues of $59 million and $47 million respectively.
PSP trailed the Nintendo pair with $21 million, and PS3 came last with revenues of $17 million. PS2 and PSP were the only two formats to see revenues drop compared to the same period last year.
Eidos CTO Julien Merceron yesterday said that this Q4 will be vital for third party Wii developers, claiming: "Either third party developers and publishers will make money on the Wii platform, or they won't - and if most of them don't I think we'll see a big drop in support for the Wii next year, which could have some consequences for Nintendo, and very positive ones for Microsoft and Sony.”

No Wonder
no wonder they can't make any money, all they have released is ports.
IMO the only reason third parties have been having trouble is because they underestimated the wii before it's released on concentrated on Xbox/PS. Now that the developers are realizing the Wii is selling like hotcakes, and that there is potential there, they will catch up.
I suspect 2008 will be a much stronger year for the Wii with Third Party developers.
Re: No Wonder
I'm more surprised at how far the PS3 s trailing behind, that thing is bombing bad.
the PS3
is a failure is all respects. Its losing money for Sony, stalemating the next gen format war, losing money on expensive games that dont sell like Lair and Heavenly Sword, and losing the console war. Any positives in the PS3???
Re: the PS3
be interested to see what profit the 360 was making ea when it had been out for a year to compare more accurately. Not suprised they haven't made much on the ps3 as they've barely released anything.
Re: the PS3
Well like has been said before EA have admitted that they regret not backing wii very much, theres hardly any EA games out on wii, and the ones that are out on wii are nearly all ports. and there are alot more out on the 360,ps2 and ps3. So this isnt really surprising.
Especially since they said them selfs that they regret not backing the wii very much
So if they havent been backing the wii very much, its obvious there not going to be making alot of money out of it.
Re: the PS3
The developers should get off their behinds and stop releasing sub standard ps2 ports on the Wii.
