Konami admits to PES2008 issues on PS3

Japanese firm confirms that a patch is in the works to address problems

A page on Konami’s website has listed a number of issues gamers are experiencing with the PS3 version of its latest football sim, Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, and stated that it is working on a patch to address the problems.

A number of problems and suggested fixes are listed. Those experiencing freezes in-game are advised not to partially install the game on the PS3 hard drive, whilst gamers experiencing stuttering gameplay are told to avoid playing the title on a hi-def television.

In regard to the online problems experienced by many, the site suggests: “We have uncovered issues which affect online gameplay quality of PES 2008. We are working at full strength to find a solution as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience”

Annoying...

No doubt this will have no affect on the public's perception of the PS3 being the best thing out there. Its funny because if this was an XBOX360 issue, it'd be all over the news and everyone would be talking about it and slamming Microsoft.

Yes very true.

I am surprised the amounts of times developers have stated that the PS3 version will be a lot better e.g. EA's Fight Night Round 3 and their Basketball game.

Then Konami saying the PS3 version of PES08 will be the best...

Then you see Sony abandoning the CELL...

Quote above: "whilst gamers experiencing stuttering gameplay are told to avoid playing the title on a hi-def television."

Actually the opposite. From the Konami web site - "The solution to this problem is to play the game on an HD TV (high definition screen) with an HDMI or component cable and the PS3 set to output in 720p resolution or above. This should prevent the problem and allow the player to enjoy the full HD experience provided by their PlayStation 3."

Sony is not abandoning Cell. See my post in that news article.

MCV should not be printing such news under a made up headline that rings of no truth at all...it's false journalism and should not be allowed.

Sony is merely focussing on their core business. IBM has done the same in the past with their LAN and HDD products, so there's nothing to worry about.

All you XBot scare mongers should really move on...there's nothing here for you.

As to the points made on the first and second post here, you're quite wrong about the PS3 not being slated for having problems.

I think you've been reading the wrong blogs/Web sites. You should check out hreespeech.com on news items, such as the Firmware v2.0 update.

On there, you will see that PlayStation owners are VERY critical of this release as well as the PS3's inability to display its XMB during a game, amongst other disgruntlements.

So, before you just jump on a nebulous band-wagon, please do some research and get your facts right.

The fact that PES2008 is suffering glitches is simply because they rushed it out, probably because of pressure from Sony to do so - who knows - when they should've waited until it was ready, despite the fact that it might mean further embarrassment for Sony and frustration for PS3 fans.

In case you're wondering, I don't own a PS3 and have no intention of doing so, simply because I'm not happy with Sony's treatment o***/European customers.

The Web site should read: www.threespeech.com

And I don't know why the last bit got censored! I merely said how Sony is treating UK/European fans...That's all...honest!

tbh the situation is an utter joke..all i was hearing in the build up to the release of this title..was how the PS3 version would be the pinnacle and it was the lead platform for the game..what a load of bull...the ps3 version is for me bordering on the unplayable..framerate drops are shocking...the PC and XBOX360 versions are not perfect but at least i can sit down and enjoy a game.....was planning on getting a PS3 ..but unless things improve greatly I'll prolly just get an xbox or stick with my PC...bad show

In response to Zed Zee's comments:
My point on PS3 not being 'slammed' for its issues was in relation to the point of view of the average Metro reader who uses London transport. The type of gamer that has helped Nintendo's fortunes blossom in recent months and has read nothing but bad news about the 360 since its launch. I havent seen one piece of negative information written anywhere about Sony's machine. Just for the record, I am not a Metro, london lite or London paper reader. I also do not own a PS3, 360 or Revolution (wii).
I hate all of them equally various different reasons. Microsoft and Sony for helping strip the industry of its creativity and originality and Sony and Nintendo also for how they have treated the European market for the last 10 years.
I couldnt care less about any of them to be honest, it just annoys me how everybody always backs Sony even when theres no reason too.
Hope you understand where I'm coming from now....?

I have a hd tv and this game still jerks. Its slow to find a match in the online mode. One person not 'connecting' on the search page takes an age and if you get bored of waiting and chance one it can take upto 40 seconds to respond.

I have fast broadband, direct ethernet connection to my PS3.

I'm a software developer myself and I promise you I wouldn't release something in such a dyer state. Perhaps Konami should be offering something to appease the fans who are sa****ching the 'connecting' page.....
