DS in top 10 hot Xmas gifts, says Dixons

But no sign of any other console in most wanted list

In a tech-heavy top 10, DS is listed as the eighth most in-demand toy for Christmas.

"Toys are not stuffed with cotton wool anymore, they are stuffed with technology," said Pat Foley, head of marketing and operations at Dixons.co.uk. "There is a whole generation of tech-savvy kids out there, and toy makers have tapped into this to make this a truly hi-tech Christmas.

This just looks like DSG trying to peddle it's wares with a bit of shameless self-promotion.

I'm sure every "tech-savvy kid" is just desperate for a Spiderman laptop....

Which self-rescpecting, successful company doesn't want to indulge in a bit of 'self promoting' over Christmas time....idiot?

What about the Nintendo Wii...

As someone who works in the video games industry at a highly successful independent video games shop, I have to seriously disagree with this. I regularly receive calls from customers who are almost always asking for a Nintendo Wii -- which we never have in stock as the suppliers don't have any either. Even when we have brand new DS Lites in a display cabinet often available in all colours (White, Black, Pink & Silver).

To me, this simply sounds like DSG trying to get rid of a large supply of DS consoles whilst making £100 at a time...and then there's the games as-well which can cost between £19.99 and £49.99 so that's even more profit for one the biggest retailers out there.

I mean take a look at the 10 items listed above, they're all somewhat expensive which is yet more profit for Dixons/DSG.

Maybe they didn't want to put the Wii in there as no one seems to be able to get one! Makes a nice change that a company isn't promoting a product that none of us can actually buy.
