Nintendo surprised by DS TV Tuner demand

Nintendo’s Japanese arm did not anticipate the high pre-order rate for upcoming handheld peripheral

Ahead of its release in the territory on Friday, Nintendo of Japan has admitted that it won’t be able to meet demand for its DS TV Tuner add-on as it had not anticipated the level of interest it has encountered, CVG reports.

The company has been accepting online orders for the device, which allows DS owners to view Japanese TV programming broadcast over the digital 1seg network, since November 8th. Indeed, NoJ even admits that it deliberately avoided promoting the peripheral as it was not related to gaming.

So far there is no word on if the device will be launched in Europe, though Nintendo did release a GBA TV tuner for its previous handheld.
